This project addresses the following National Science Standards:external image img00003.jpg

A: Science as Inquiry: students develop understanding about scientific inquiry.

Use tools and techniques, including mathematics, as guided by questions asked and the investigation. Students base their explanation on what they observed, and as they develop cognitive skills, they should be able to differentiate explanation from description.

D: Earth and Space Science: Students develop understanding of interactions of earth systems.

Land forms are the result of a combination of constructive and destructive forces. Constructive forces include crustal deformation, volcanic eruption, and deposition of sediment, while destructive forces include weathering and erosion.

F: Science in Personal and Social Perspectives: Students develop understanding of how earth systems can influence personal and societal challenges.

Internal and external processes of the earth system cause natural hazards, events that change or destroy human and wildlife habitats, damage property, and harm or kill humans. Natural hazards include earthquakes, landslides, wildfires, volcanic eruptions, floods, storms, and even possible impacts of asteroids.
